Song Exclusive: Glitterati

Ukrainian born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Alina Simone returns with “Glitterati,” a folk song by all means, with a heavy dose of auto-harp and cello to darken it up proper. “I started listening to a lot of traditional music, (Alan Lomax field recordings, Hasil Adams, etc.) and bought an autoharp,” she says. “I had no idea how to play the [it], but it’s an easy instrument, and I just started banging away on it in my bedroom.” And despite the fun sounding title, the song, written in North Carolina while Simone was missing New York something fierce, shouldn’t be taken lightly. ”I wanted [it] to be heart-stopping. The kind of music that demands attention and couldn’t just drone on in the background of some shop or office.”
