SXSW: Day One. After Dark.

Night has fallen and the marathon has begun as the Sound Effects-ers head off in three separate directions in search of joyful noises.

Daryl Hall, in town for an official SXSW interview panel, goes sans Oates in the Lone Star Lounge to a big crowd of pop music fans and gives them everything their hearts desire.

“Now we’re gonna rock out, Russian-style,” says intense chanteuse Alina Simone, an Austin-ite by way of Boston by way of the Ukraine. And that she does on the 18th floor lounge of the Hilton Garden Inn (the best view of the city lights). Although she sings in Russian her emotional delivery makes the meaning of the songs crystal clear.
