Blogging SXSW: Alina Simone

March 13, 2008 – Ukrainian-born singer/songwriter Alina Simone caught my attention back in the fall 2007 when her first full-length album, “Placelessness,” hit shelves. With a distinctive vocal pitch that brings to mind a handful of strong female vocalists at various times–including Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries, Cat Power’s Chan Marshall, Sinead O’Connor and PJ Harvey–Simone crafts emotive songs that draws listeners into her world effortlessly.
